The science of sound and its effects on mind, brain and body is nothing new.
Gregorian and Tibetan chants, indigenous drums and dancing, even the music of great composers. All of these human works have utilized sound as a medium for enhancing the experience of the mind.
We’re all familiar with how a beautiful piece of slow music can relax us, and how a fast, energetic piece can motivate and excite. The human mind works in rhythms and frequencies that ‘primitive’ cultures have been aware of for centuries before modern science caught on.
inmindmotion.com takes the ancient and well-known ability of sound and music to affect the mind and couples it with modern technology to provide audios to help with specific problems. Click here to see what issues we can help with!
Frequency Following Response
When the brain is presented with a rhythmic stimulus, such as a drum beat for example, the rhythm is reproduced in the brain in the form of electrical impulses. If the rhythm becomes fast and consistent enough, it can start to resemble the natural internal rhythms of the brain, called brainwaves. When this happens, the brain responds by synchronizing its own electric cycles to the same rhythm. This is commonly called the Frequency Following Response (FFR), or entrainment.
For example, Native American Indians used fire, drums and dancing to induce an almost trance-like state in ceremonies.
Melodic or rhythmical waveforms, such as: ocean waves, thunderstorms, and grand symphonies; have all moved the human brain into broader, more advanced ways of utilizing the relationship between mind and brain.
Lit candles or soft music help us to relax and calm an overactive mind. For thousands of years humankind has used flickering light, melody and rhythm to affect body, mind and spirit.
Interestingly, there is even a viable theory that the evolution of the Homo Sapien brain may be attributed to our first uses of fire.
The idea is that the dietary improvements of cooking with fire allowed more physical development to take place within the brain. In conjunction with this benefit, it is hypothesized that the flickering, cascading rhythms of the flame's dance led to new neural pathway development and new ways of thinking.
In the 1940's, neurophysiologist William Gray Walter, proved that the brain's EEG activity will follow flickering light (such as a candle or fire).
Today, scientific experimentation has shown that repetitive light and sound frequencies will directly stimulate brain wave activity. Various psychologist and researchers apply this knowledge towards brain wave synchronization therapies. A noticeable use of this technology is the ability to self-direct deep levels of relaxation and focused states of hypnosis, as well as, "altered states of awareness". Research and application also point toward therapies for ADD/ADHD, stress, sleep disorders, neural-pathway stimulation and more.
How inmindmotion.com audios work
Inmindmotion.com audios use the mind’s ability to follow rhythmic beats into particular states to provide all-natural, effective ways to treat specific issues or help with personal growth.
Session audios
